Margaret Bentson

Margaret joined Gallagher's Human Resources & Compensation Consulting practice in 2010. Previously, Margaret was a Partner and Principal with Hewitt Associates (now Aon) most recently based in the firm’s San Francisco office, where she consulted with clients and managed a staff of compensation consultants. Prior to her tenure in San Francisco, she was based in southern California. She has over 30 years of compensation consulting experience and a wide range of expertise working with large, mid-sized and start-up organizations (both public and private) in consumer products, equipment rentals, food service, manufacturing, retail, high technology, energy, biotechnology, financial services, construction and engineering services, telecommunications, higher education and healthcare.

Margaret’s areas of expertise include compensation management, total compensation assessment, development of compensation policies and procedures, job classification and evaluation, short- and long-term incentive design, development of recognition award programs, performance management, executive compensation and federal Fair Labor Standards Act and state exemption status assessment.

Margaret is particularly adept at managing complex compensation projects. Clients also appreciate her responsiveness, focus on quality, strong communication skills and ability to anticipate issues as well as going the extra distance on projects.

She has written several articles and book chapters for WorldatWork and the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) on compensation topics and has delivered speeches to professional associations such as WorldatWork and the Bay Area Compensation Association. Prior to becoming a compensation consultant, she worked in labor relations.
