Call requirements and compensation practices remain top of mind for many healthcare professionals and leadership teams, as organizations struggle to staff call services. Generally, employers define a base emergency department call requirement for their physicians.

However, base call requirements may become blurred for physicians in leadership roles with minimal dedicated clinical full-time-employee time. Given the focus of those physicians on leadership and administrative duties, their organizations often wrestle with whether physician leaders should take call coverage.

In response to these questions, Gallagher gathered data from more than 50 US healthcare entities. Our 2024 Physician Leader Call Responsibilities Pulse Survey offers insight into how organizations are establishing call requirements for physician leaders or the top-level clinic positions within clinical divisions.
