The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has recognized per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) — also called forever chemicals — as a major emerging contaminant. Due to their persistence and resistance to degradation, PFAS have caused widespread environmental contamination, resulting in increased regulatory scrutiny and legal liabilities.
