Hello and welcome to the Navigating Risks podcast. My name is Helen Yates and I'm Gallagher's Global Editor. Today I'm joined by Carl Gurney, Director of Renewable Energy UK Retail at Gallagher. We're going to be talking about energy security and the journey to net zero.
From the perspective of the energy transition, we are set to enter a period of substantial investment and growth in renewable sources of energy such as solar and wind. I started off by asking Carl what the next decade will look like in terms of this transformation.
Welcome Carl, thank you very much indeed for your time today. From the perspective of the transition to net zero, we're entering into a period where we're going to see substantial investment and growth in the renewable space.
What for you will the next decade look like in terms of this transformation?
Carl Gurney: Thanks Helen and great to be here. There's a huge amount of investment coming into renewables and I think that's been focused as much now on energy security and avoiding volatility of wholesale pricing alongside climate change.
The next decade is going to be interesting in how we transition from fossil fuels to renewables and how we transfer the skill sets that are out there in already delivering fossil fuels. I think that plays a huge part in the transition that we've got.
We'll certainly see the decarbonisation of transport. I think we're seeing that in terms of electric vehicle rollouts. We've got biomethane powered trucks out there, etc. Hydrogens on the horizon for fuel cells outside of that. We're looking at the aerospace, which obviously we do a lot in. We've got sustainable air fuels as well coming forward.
