Gallagher today announced the appointment of Barry Jones as Head of Construction and Power for the Middle East and Africa (MEA). In this newly created role Barry will be responsible for growing Gallagher’s client base in these two key sectors, which are both major industries in the MEA region. He will join in December, will lead the existing construction team and report to Nadim Semaan, SEO of MEA at Gallagher.
Barry brings over 25 years of risk and insurance experience and is joining Gallagher from Lockton, where since 2021, he has been Senior Vice President and leader of the power and infrastructure practice for the MENA region. He has experience in supporting construction and power projects and his experience spans numerous large complex industries including conventional and renewal power, utilities, infrastructure such as logistics, hospitals, universities, and the chemical and pharmaceutical sectors. He has extensive knowledge of public private partnerships and project finance transactions, and risk identification and analysis, particularly regarding contractual review and analysis, helping to ensure a fair allocation of risk.
Commenting on Barry’s appointment, Nadim, said: “As part of our 2024 plans we have been focusing on building our regional specialty expertise and Barry is a fantastic addition to our 55 plus talented team, operating across the MEA region. His appointment further reinforces our commitment to providing clients with in-depth sector knowledge and given the close knit nature of construction and power, particularly prior to and when power assets become operational, he is well placed to support our growing client base.
“His impressive career has seen him work with many large global and regional companies on complex projects and having been based in the region for several years he brings an enviable understanding of businesses operating regionally and globally. He will play an important role in our growth story, which since we launched in 2021 has been exceptional, and we are very much looking forward to having him onboard.”
