Gallagher today announced the appointment of Darren Richardson as an energy risk engineer to support the oil and gas value chain operations. In his role, Darren will additionally be responsible for supporting Gallagher’s clients that are looking to transition to more sustainable technologies and processes.
He joins Gallagher from Zurich where he worked for the last eight years, most recently as Head of Sustainable Energy for North America, advising on technologies such as e-fuels, bio-gas, bio-diesel, renewable diesel, renewable natural gas, carbon capture & sequestration, hydrogen and small modular nuclear. Prior to this he was a Risk Engineer for its oil, gas and petrochemicals downstream energy operations. He has also held roles at BP and GE Oil & Gas as a Petroleum Engineer.
His background includes developing models to enable clients to perform full environmental disclosures through life cycle analysis methodology and developing business plans which stand up to scientific scrutiny.
He has experience in undertaking risk assessments at energy operations including at refineries, fractionators, gas plants, chemical plants, offshore drilling rigs and production platforms, tank terminals, compressor stations, bio-gas and hydrogen facilities in order to produce useful insight on the risk to the market.
He has a master’s degree from Robert Gordon University in subsea petroleum engineering and as part of a post graduate thesis is in the process of publishing a research thesis on transporting and handling hydrogen efficiently and safely.
