Can you tell us about your professional background before this role?
I started my career in the late 1980s as a commercial banker in Norway, financing shipping companies. However, my entrepreneurial mindset drove me into the insurance business and in the 90s, I started a company with some of my peers and continued on this journey for decades before joining Gallagher. Gallagher's Norway team and I shared the same values, and this harmony has been a critical driver of continued growth and success for us all.

What defines your job role and your responsibilities at Gallagher?
My role at Gallagher is more of an advisor. I focus on delivering value to our clients by sharing my ideas and analysis. More than convincing them I am right, the objective is to build communication that benefits both sides. For me, it is essential to look beyond client expectations and emphasise fostering a learning and knowledge-sharing culture — this is crucial for mentoring and supporting the next generation within the company.

As a senior broker, what do you find most fulfilling about collaborating with your colleagues?
We all have a shared passion and expertise we bring to every challenge. With my background in banking and years of involvement in the energy sector, I bring valuable perspectives to the table and enjoy discussing ideas openly with colleagues.

In an industry like ours, you can't just read about things; you need hands-on experience. So, I wear the hat of a mentor and feel proud and happy when new employees seek my guidance; it reflects the trust and respect I have earned over the years.

What is it about your role or the work environment at Gallagher that gives you energy and enthusiasm?
Gallagher maintains a lean structure with minimal red tape to promote innovation and creative thinking. It is a space where autonomy and teamwork strike a perfect balance, allowing individuals to contribute to the goal while working with skilled and inspiring colleagues. I channel my energy to this combination of independence and encourage a culture of innovation.

Given the passion for the skills and competence we have at Gallagher, how do you see this expertise benefiting our clients and setting us apart?
At Gallagher, our passion for skills and competence is at the heart of everything we do, and it sets us apart in the industry. We don't view ourselves as mere brokers handling transactions; we are trusted advisors. To offer stalwart support to our clients, we rely on deep knowledge and our broad perspective. We are always eager to learn and aim to provide advice beyond the surface level.

How does Gallagher support mental health and employee wellbeing?
At Gallagher, we have a culture of direct and open dialogue. We are not afraid to ask questions because it is through these conversations that we create a sense of belonging and eliminate feelings of inadequacy. It is essential that people in our team feel valued and supported so they come out more confident. Gallagher's commitment to these values creates a space where individuals can thrive and know their concerns are heard and addressed, which is crucial for maintaining mental wellbeing at work.

In your opinion, what makes Gallagher a great place to work?
What sets Gallagher apart is the exceptional competence of our team. We have some of the best industry experts, and it is rare to find a competitor in Oslo who can challenge our competence. Further, one of the critical values we uphold is collaboration — ideas and knowledge are meant to be shared, not protected. A mentality of 'protecting what's yours' can harm individual growth and company culture.

At Gallagher, we foster an environment where our peers want us to be successful. This camaraderie strengthens and enhances our teamwork and makes Gallagher a great place to work.

Could you share with us some proud moments in your career?
Just a month ago, I attended a major renewable energy conference in Oslo, which takes place at the end of October every year. This conference is attended by many CEOs and key political figures in the industry, including the Minister of Energy. Being invited to speak on stage and share my opinions at such an event signals that I have contributed something meaningful. That recognition truly makes me proud.

When you are not working, what is one hobby or interest you love to pursue?
I enjoy hiking in the mountains. In Norway, we have peaks over 2,000 meters and every summer, I explore new trails. I used to navigate with just a compass and map, but now I stick to marked routes — much to my wife's relief. Hiking helps me stay refreshed and maintain balance.
