Could you tell us about your journey leading up to your role at Gallagher?
After completing my bachelor's degree, I gained real-world work experience before pursuing a master's. This decision led me to another insurance broker, where I worked on claims for marine and energy clients. Following this, I completed my master's degree in business with a finance major, which provided me with a diverse skill set crucial for my current role, including law, leadership, and finance skills. I joined Gallagher in October 2023. I was attracted to the flat hierarchy and the trust and responsibility given to employees from the start.
What does a typical day look like for you at Gallagher?
As an Assistant Broker, I play a pivotal role in supporting our brokers within the renewable energy sector. My daily responsibilities are dynamic, bridging the gap between traditional energy clientele and the rapidly expanding renewable market. The constant evolution of technologies and the industry landscape necessitate a profound emphasis on human interaction with clients and insurers. My workday is varied, primarily focusing on liaising with brokers on the renewable side. The distinction between brokering for renewables versus conventional energy is stark due to the influx of innovative technologies and the increased need for thorough discussions to fully comprehend the associated risks.
What do you enjoy most about your role?
I enjoy the variety and flexibility of my role. I appreciate the trust and responsibility given to me, which allow me to manage my own time. Following the energy business and its transition is also interesting, especially the new technologies and the associated risks and liabilities.
How does Gallagher support your professional development?
Gallagher supports me by providing training and mentorship. I have received training in reading contracts and advising clients on liability. My mentor reviews contracts with me, and I have monthly discussions with my manager. Gallagher also encourages attendance at seminars and webinars relevant to our work.

While I am currently not serving as a formal mentor, I actively contribute to developing learning materials for new hires. This is something I have been working in collaboration with local Operations and HR, to help with employee onboarding. I am passionate about personal and organisational growth and look forward to taking on a mentoring role in the future.

I appreciate the people I work with at Gallagher. They are easy-going and respectful and make it enjoyable to work together. The work-life balance and flexibility are also valued aspects of working here. Topping all of this is that I genuinely look forward to stepping into the office each morning. There is always an element of anticipation of seeing what each day will bring.
