As Artificial Intelligence (AI) reshapes industries and redefines job roles, HR and internal communications professionals find themselves at the forefront of these changes.
With predictions indicating significant shifts in workforce dynamics, now is the time to understand the implications of AI so you can proactively address the challenges and seize the opportunities it presents.
Accepting the inevitability of AI deployment is crucial. The State of the Sector 2024 report told us 41% of respondents are enthused about the coming changes while only 9% are championing the changes needed. Yet in accepting and embracing AI’s inevitability, HR and internal communications practitioners are well positioned to engage both leaders and the workforce in necessary conversations around opportunities, risks and the strategies needed to manage these.
Understanding the impact of AI
Proactive engagement builds an understanding of what’s ahead – and there’s no doubt that AI is set to transform organizational structures. The World Economic Forum Future of Jobs Report 2023 states that employers expect to create 69 million new jobs and eliminate 83 million by 2027.
While facing the impact of AI on the workforce, HR practitioners also have an opportunity to employ AI in reshaping the workforce. Gallagher research reveals a third (34%) of practitioners are considering use of AI to write job descriptions. Just over a quarter (27%) are reported as considering the same for talent development and training. Could this be you too?
Focusing on upskilling and reskilling
The need for training ahead of AI’s disruptive potential is paramount. The World Economic Forum tells us six in 10 workers will require training before 2027 – with analytical thinking the highest priority, closely followed by creative thinking and use of AI and big data.
As for those who feel prepared, the State of the Sector 2024 survey findings revealed 22% of respondents believed their organizations have the necessary AI training resource in place. A third (35%) reported having sufficient tools and systems in place, while 34% stated having the right people in place.
Identifying skills gaps in your organization gives you the opportunity to develop training initiatives needed to equip employees for evolving roles ahead of time – moreover, to face the challenge of simultaneous job creation and displacement.
Future proofing your own role in HR and Internal Communications
Are you ready to make the most of AI within your own organization? AI-powered tools and data-driven insight have the potential to enhance processes and communications and optimize engagement. Yet this calls for communications practitioners to upskill, reskill and future proof their own roles.
AI brings challenges – of that there’s no doubt – yet it’s also a huge opportunity for HR and internal communications professionals to position themselves as strategic AI leads within your organization.
