Gallagher Norway is one of the largest marine and energy insurance broker teams in Scandinavia, and the result of two highly-regarded and specialist brokers joining forces — Bergvall Marine and Parisco. We are a 30+ strong team of brokers, claims specialists and supporting staff with extensive knowledge and experience in our sector and a reputation for a client-first approach.

Founded by Arthur J. Gallagher in Chicago in 1927, Gallagher has grown to be one of the leading insurance brokerages, risk management, and HR & benefits consulting companies in the world. With significant reach internationally, our organization employs over 52,000 people and our global network provides services in more than 130 countries.

Building on our legacy

The story of Gallagher Norway goes back to 1894, when the grandfather of Bjørn Bergvall established Arvid Bergvall AS in Norway. Family-owned and run for over a century, the company went through several management changes, eventually becoming part of Gallagher in 2013. Like Bergvall, Gallagher was (and still is) a third-generation family-owned company with customer service at its heart.

In 2021, wishing to further expand its marine and energy business in Norway, Gallagher acquired Parisco AS. Like Bergvall, Parisco was made up of a dedicated team of specialists who recognized the importance of strong customer relationships. Formed from a team at one of the world's largest insurance brokers, we built a small but mighty business that quickly became a trusted name in Norway's offshore energy sector.

Bergvall, Parisco and Gallagher have always shared common values in terms of how we do business — putting the customer first in every decision and circumstance. Gallagher Norway timeline

1890s-1990s

1894 — The grandfather of Bjørn Bergvall establishes Arvid Bergvall AS, which goes on to become a leading insurance brokerage in Norway.
1927 — Arthur J. Gallagher sets up Arthur J. Gallagher Ltd. in Chicago. Like Bergvall, it eventually becomes a third-generation family-owned company (and still is today).
1963 — Bjørn Bergvall, sailor and Olympic gold medallist and grandson of Arvid, joins Arvid Bergvall AS, assuming the position of Managing Director five years later.
1972 — J. Patrick (Pat) Gallagher Jr., Arthur's grandson, joins Arthur J. Gallagher Ltd. as an intern.
1994 — Arvid Bergvall AS is sold to Sedgwick, which goes on to be acquired by Marsh four years later.
1995 — Pat Gallagher becomes CEO of Arthur J. Gallagher, and in the same decade, the company establishes its specialist marine insurance team to support the global maritime and shipping sector.

2000s-2020s

2001 — Parisco AS is founded by five AON employees, including Dag Magne Torjussen, and soon become a trusted name in the offshore energy sector.
2005 — Parisco AS expands into the marine segment.
2006 — Parisco AS is acquired by Benfield, which in turn is acquired by AON two years later, bringing Dag and his team back to their roots (and their old office!).
2008 — Bjørn Bergvall, together with an entrepreneurial team from Marsh, re-enters the market and sets up Bergvall Marine AS. This team includes Marsh's Head of Marine & Energy, Anders Mjaaland. The company soon attracts several top Norwegian ship owners as clients.
2011 — A management buyout sees the Parisco team move away from AON. This frees them up to operate once again according to their own strategy — placing the unique needs of each individual customer above all else.
2013 — Bergvall Marine comes under the Gallagher umbrella. Meanwhile, Parisco takes on its first renewable energy client.
2015 — Parisco AS becomes a registered Lloyd's broker.
2017 — Arthur J. Gallagher Ltd. Rebrands as Gallagher, still with Pat Gallagher at the helm.
2021 — Bergvall Marine opens a branch in Sweden.
2021 — Parisco AS joins the Gallagher group of companies and becomes Gallagher Parisco AS.
2022 — Bergvall Marine changes its name to Gallagher Bergvall AS.
2023 — Gallagher Bergvall AS and Gallagher Parisco AS teams move into shared office space to work more closely together.
2024 — Gallagher Bergvall AS and Gallagher Parisco AS merge to become Gallagher Norway, with Anders Mjaaland as CEO, and Dag Magne Torjussen as CFO & COO.
